'I can see clearly now the rain is gone.' Jimmy Cliff
Life is ... a series of relationships.
With whoever and whatever is in front of us; with every thought, belief, idea, and feeling; we're in a relationship.
As human beings, you and I are designed to - through the experience of relationship - uniquely 'make sense' of everything we encounter. We do this, as best we can, by internal reference to our perceptions of what's happened to us so far.
But inevitably, there are times when this gets tricky, painful - and at times just plain miserable. And it's then, if we so wish, that we can review how what we're thinking, believing, feeling, doing, is working/not working.
With every thought comes a feeling; with every feeling a thought. They feed each other; two sides of the same coin.
In trying to make sense of our upsets, we can think the 'other' (he, she, they, it, the situation) is the cause, this meaning we're at the effect end of things - not a nice place to be!
But when we're able to see that thoughts and feelings are one and the same, two sides of the same coin, always spinning together, we can fall back into a sense of stillness, peace of mind and clearer perspective.
In pausing this way, just for a moment, we can take that opportunity to review, question and correct the real cause of any upset; and uncover the ancient, mistaken, and beyond their sell-by date thoughts and beliefs (the 'rain') we all have about ourselves.
Life can't help but reflect back what's really true. And as with any reflection, I find that only when I'm still inside, can I see clearly.
Whatever the weather.
